How the Bored Apes Yacht Club shares its intellectual property
The Bored Ape Yacht Club BAYC was launched in April 2021 by Yuga Labs.
It’s a collection of 10000 unique NFTs.
The base of the success are the four founders. They were at the right place in the right time because people startet to build their digital presence around profile pictures (PFP).
CryptoPunks were the first, but also very expensive. The Bored Apes were much cheaper at $200 at the time.
Some strategic partnerships with celebrities helped a lot to catapult the topic into the mainstream.
Members of the club enjoy exclusive access to real and virtual events.
Other perks include airdrops that help create additional NFTs, some at $80’000 per ape.
They also expanded to 20’000 Mutant Apes.
Adidas bought one of the apes and built a shoe around its look as did Gucci.
The intellectual property IP is available for coproductions. The IP can be licensed for all sorts of applications as you can see on TAG Heuer smartwatches or Bugatti suitcases.
Anything that people create around BAYC ultimately helps the brand
